Upon the waves he sang

Another 45 minute sketch with the awesome brushes I used in the previous ones. I really want to find the time to do more but the arrival of a new Playstation3 with a load of games will make it difficult...

45 Minutes - Wind in the Blossom

Another one, this time a little faster and a little sloppier. Same brushes as before and I'm still loving them. Now I need to come up with a more original scene because I totally ripped the idea from Yoshitoshi. Cheers!

60 Minutes

I've started reading "Blade of the Immortal" again and I think it shows. I really love that comic and it's world. I made this one also to experiment with Ditlev's set of brushes. I love them!

Into a forest

Simple speedpaint, more a color test.

APC votex

I just had the urge to paint a APC for no good reason. I spent around 5 to 6 hours on it. I think that I will try a more extreme design next time. Anyway, I think that for an afternoon of painting the result is not to bad.

Under the Mountain

Here's a not so fast speedpaint. It started as an exploration of colour use and it turned into this. I really need to practise more on interesting compositions and designs... Oh well, next time.

Speed paint nr. 300293142442,5

Really, it's just another speedpaint to experiment with colours and shapes. It was however quite nice to not give a flippin fuck about composition this time.
Good day!

What's up Mr. Cthulhu

Here's old Grumpy Trousers himself, Mr. Cthulhu. He feels misunderstood and doesn't connect with the youngsters anymore. He wants to return to his lair under the sea but some old fool is drilling for oil there... poor old Mr. Cthulhu. Maybe a hot cup of tea will cheer him up.

Wow, time goes supersonic when you're busy!

Well, hello there my beloved friends, I'm glad to see you still visit me at times. A lot has happened after I returned from my wonderful trip to Japan. The journey to the east awakened a slumbering passion for change and travel. I realised that haven't seen much of the world as much as I like in those 27 years I'm breathing. On my return to Holland I decided to make a change.

The first step was quitting my job at Triumph Studios. I have enjoyed my time there and worked with some great people. Still, after almost two years of being a little art minion at Triumph I needed a new adventure. I had no new job lined up but I thought; what the heck!
I was lucky to be in contact with a rather large developer & publisher and after some talks and chats I landed myself a job at... Ubisoft Massive!

I'm packing my stuff and I move to Malmo, Sweden at the beginning of August. I'm very excited to start working with my new team there at Ubisoft Massive. So goodbye Holland, hello blonde-ikea-h&m-abba people!

Stay tuned because I have some free time on my hands to work a bit on my art. Updates imminent!

Tetsuo!!! Tribute to Akira and CGchub challenge entry.

Last Sunday I spend mostly on the couch watching tv and sketching away in my sketchbook. It was quite some time ago since I managed to render out a drawing with pencil. It really is satisfying though frustrating when you mess up and have to erase. Especially since my eraser is rather big and tends to erase more than intended.
Anyway, I made this drawing for the CGhub.com challenge; "Experiment Gone Wrong". I couldn't really come up with an original idea so I borrowed it from my favourite anime. I have to recommend you read the original manga novel. It's a classic that resonates still in the back of my mind.
Let's hope I'm not disqualified for the challenge... :)

Landscapes

Another try at some landscapes, I think I need to really keep practising. It still feels like a subject I haven't really mastered yet. The one on the top might actually get a new version of it because after I finished it I wanted to see more of the mountains in the distance. I might turn it into a panoramic shot. Anyway, I've got some great news coming soon. So stay tuned!

High Altitude Pass

Here's the first of hopefully many environment sketches to come. I spent about and hour on it. I wanted to find out how to keep it simple but still make it look complex. The variation in colour was a bitch. It's so easy to lose grip on composition and contrast. I think this one was a good start, up to the next in this series of environments.

Post-Apoc Scavenger

I saw "The Road" recently and I was quite taken by the atmosphere and visuals. No big SFX but a subtle view of a world gone bad. I have a passion for everything post-apocalyptic, I can't wait for the zombies to knock on my door.
Anyway, this character is a good old red-neck scavenger, looking for some human flesh ;)

Special Forces Pen Sketches

I've drawing a lot of military stuff lately, really don't know why. I try to master my skills with the fine-liner, no pencils and erasers just ink. I hope to show some more soon. For now it's this random bunch that got a bit of Photoshop love. Peace!

Medea Progress

For the CGhub weekly drawing jam I entered the Greek Myth themed Jam. I was going to do a take on Medea but due to unforeseen circumstances I didn't have the time to finish it. Maybe one day it will get the time it deserves.

Random Illustration

For some reason I had this picture in my head and it just had to come out.
